Hello, I am Birgit Schattling

My Vision is that more people are using their balconies and windowsills use — close to nature, for Self-sufficiencyas Oases of peace and relaxation. For quality of life in edible cities, preservation of the biodiversity, Climate protectionoases of well-being with exciting Nature experiences.

The organic balcony project I initiated in 2017 with 13 organic balcony congresses to date, 2 guidebooks, 4 balcony courses, various lecture tours and publications is an invitation for many more green, blooming, diverse feel-good places for humans and animals with a pleasant microclimate and lush harvest — especially in our cities.

In a small space more possiblethan you think! I inspire, share experiences and give practical instructions. My how-to book, published by Gräfe und Unze in March 2020, has received the best feedback “My biotope on the balcony. Experience nature and harvest happiness in the middle of the city” (already 2nd edition). In May 2023, “My ingenious organic balcony. Gardening saves the world!

Each and every one of us has experienced the feeling that there is nothing we can actually do about major changes such as species extinction and climate change. Everything I do is not good enough. Gardening, whether on the balcony, windowsill or in the garden, is a positive approach to making a difference and changing things on many levels. With lots of joy, fun and a successful harvest. It’s all about getting started. Just get started. Gardening makes a difference, and this becomes visible quickly and easily. We learn to look, listen, observe, empathize with our plants and the earthworm and get a feel for them. We feel that we are part of nature. We reconnect with nature. There is no real separation. A responsibility arises from this. In the 5th year of the organic balcony project, I am more and more convinced that balconies are a A link to get closer to nature are. They take us back to the nature that we experience and feel there. We are part of nature.
