Book “Outcry of Nature” by Prof. Peter Berthold
Our future needs nature. Biodiversity: The guarantee for our survival: What we can still do — the last chance for our battered planet. The illustrated book on the subject of species conservation will be published on December 22, 2023 at the publishing house Frederking & Thaler.
Dare to create habitats for the wilderness!
Every home garden can be a biotope! A colorfully illustrated appeal as to why we humans must dare to create wilderness. No matter where you create ponds, pools and riparian forests, orchards, hedgerows and near-natural gardens in Germany: A species-rich biotope of flowering plants and thousands of creatures such as butterflies, dragonflies, frogs, amphibians and fish is created in a short space of time.
In this engaging non-fiction book, Professor Peter Berthold, renowned ornithologist and behavioral scientist, explains how everything is connected and why we should do everything we can for biodiversity and nature conservation.
The organic balcony movement is mentioned in the book as a concrete tip: what each individual can do to save biodiversity.

Journalist Thilo Schmidt visited me and my Worm boxes: Compost in the kitchen — The worm bin and was amazed at how much can grow on a balcony. He didn’t see any room for a garden chair and probably overlooked my seating area with its large wooden table and bench because of all the greenery. I’ve harvested at least 500 tomatoes this season, he probably couldn’t believe it either. I can only recommend making use of the capacity of your balcony or windowsill and sustainable fertilizer from its own biowaste.

Hands in the soil! Vertical Gardening — For green, edible cities of the future! by Dr. Jürgen Herler
This Book is a guide for anyone who wants to eat organically and healthily — by growing their own fruit and vegetables — as well as for architects and garden planners who want to break new ground.
Biologist Jürgen Herler illustrates the importance of urban greenery and the possibilities of implementing this in urban areas through vertical gardening — on balconies, terraces and house walls. He gives practical tips for vertical low-energy vegetable cultivation in winter and presents 30 frost-resistant varieties in words and pictures.
He also deals intensively with the problems of industrial agriculture, the boom in organic farming, healthy food, microbiome research and biodiversity in cultivation and nutrition.
The author develops innovative vertical beds himself. His vision is green, “edible” houses and cities. With this book, he encourages reflection and calls for action.
