The 2018 Media Prize of the German Horticultural Society 1822 e.V. (DGG) goes to the Organic Balcony Congress. “With her online campaign, she has succeeded in taking many people with her and training them to become active organic gardeners,” emphasized jury member Dr. Birgitta Goldschmidt in her laudatory speech. The media prize is awarded to people who have devoted themselves in particular to the original topics of the German Horticultural Society within a journalistic contribution, such as Garden as a place of education, inclusion and social change; New alternatives, MovementsDevelopments in the garden.
The German Horticultural Society e.V. is the oldest German horticultural association and was founded in 1822 by Peter Josef Lenné in collaboration with Alexander von Humboldt, Christian Peter Wilhelm Beuth and Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The holistic view of (natural) science, (architectural) art and (educational) culture has characterized the German Horticultural Society for almost 200 years. The German Horticultural Society sees itself as a driving force and coordinator for the promotion of nature education and garden culture. Thank you for this honor.
On the wonderful island of Mainau in the magnificent White Hall of the castle, I was presented with the “Media Prize of the German Horticultural Society 1822” for the Organic Balcony Congress.
Wow. What moments. Walking up the stairs into the White Hall of the palace. Magnificent oil paintings on the walls. The red carpet. The finely forged banisters. I still get goosebumps and am a little proud of myself.
Great speeches. Great new acquaintances. Meeting of the delegation from Nature in the garden. Interview with Heike Boomgaarden.
Organic young gardener Paul is also interviewed about what he likes best on the balcony: The squirrels.
Further prizes were awarded: The “DGG Book Prizes” and the “Sonja Bernadotte Prize for Pathways to Nature Education”. Mag. Wolfgang Sobotka was made an honorary member of the DGG. This was followed by a very refreshing panel discussion on the requirements and challenges facing private and municipal green spaces in the face of globalization, digitalization and climate change.
The gardeners’ buffet with wine from Mainau was a delicious finale. Very impressive good moments and many acquaintances with people who are committed to more nature and greenery. Thank you for this day and this honor. Thanks to Ka Sundancewho brought the online congresses to Germany and gives many people impulses for personal development.
We are creating more colorful, healthier cities and communities, we are doing something for the bees and for the climate. We take care of ourselves — we create oases of well-being. That’s great. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. Thank you for the many comments on my website, on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube, your emails. Turn your balconies into snacking balconies, wild plant balconies, recreational oases where the bees buzz. Think about self-sufficiency. Include the windowsills. Talk about it. WE ARE PART OF THE MOVEMENT. WE CREATE. We want more green.
Every organic balcony can make a small contribution to improving the microclimate and air quality in a healthy habitat for people, plants and animals! It’s worth taking part! Are you already involved?
