Sylvia Meise

Wild Life on the 5th floor. Two years of Frankfurt’s wildflower balcony

Sylvia Meise from Frankfurt a.M. is a journalist, tracker and designer of a wild balcony with consistently wildflowers on the 5th floor with a „favorite seating area, wild bee nursery, squirrel lookout“. In her family, „garden“ used to be a foreign word. Sylvia planted the rainforest indoors and new flowering wonders outside every year. When she delved deep into the subject of wildflowers for two magazine articles, a completely new window opened up for her in terms of garden design. It showed her that native flora is not only wild and tough, but also beautiful and vital for biodiversity. Since then, she’s not only been a wildlife lover when it comes to reading tracks, but also on her 7.4 m² loggia. Things really got going in March 2023.

Presentation content:

The introduction to this lecture on tracking is exciting. Sylvia has been a trained tracker for seven years and had already noticed before switching to wildflowers that the balcony is a great place to sit and observe wildlife. She tells beautiful stories about tracking on the balcony, the wildflowers on the balcony and the great enrichment of having such a wild balcony. Sylvia hopes that you, the biodiversity, will catch the wildflower virus just as she did. Because: Every meter counts!
