Good life and good places, natu­re as a space of expe­ri­ence and a source of mea­ning

Prof. Dr. Ulrich Geb­hard has been working as a seni­or pro­fes­sor at the Facul­ty of Edu­ca­ti­on at Bie­le­feld Uni­ver­si­ty sin­ce 2021, having pre­vious­ly work­ed for 25 years as a pro­fes­sor at the Facul­ty of Edu­ca­ti­on at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Ham­burg, after having been stu­di­ed bio­lo­gy, Ger­man stu­dies and psy­cho­ana­ly­sis. His rese­arch on the rela­ti­onship bet­ween humans and natu­re, the importance of natu­re expe­ri­en­ces for child­ren in terms of well-being, per­so­na­li­ty deve­lo­p­ment, health and envi­ron­men­tal awa­re­ness has been published in num­e­rous books. The 5th edi­ti­on of his stan­dard work „Child and Natu­re“ was published in 2020. In his work on expe­ri­en­ces of natu­re, he tri­es to show, among other things, that and how inner and outer natu­re are con­nec­ted.

Con­tents:

Prof. Dr. Ulrich Geb­hard pro­vi­des insights into some facets of the com­plex rela­ti­onship bet­ween humans and natu­re, the expe­ri­ence of natu­re and edu­ca­ti­on as well as per­so­nal deve­lo­p­ment. He shows why natu­re is so important for human health. He gives an out­line of why it is a good idea to expe­ri­ence natu­re, what this has to do with the good life, in what respect this pro­mo­tes the men­tal deve­lo­p­ment of child­ren, that this has some­thing to do with health, as well as our fun­da­men­tal need for mea­ning.
