Prof. Dr. Ulrich Gebhard
Good life and good places, nature as a space of experience and a source of meaning
Prof. Dr. Ulrich Gebhard has been working as a senior professor at the Faculty of Education at Bielefeld University since 2021, having previously worked for 25 years as a professor at the Faculty of Education at the University of Hamburg, after having been studied biology, German studies and psychoanalysis. His research on the relationship between humans and nature, the importance of nature experiences for children in terms of well-being, personality development, health and environmental awareness has been published in numerous books. The 5th edition of his standard work „Child and Nature“ was published in 2020. In his work on experiences of nature, he tries to show, among other things, that and how inner and outer nature are connected.

Prof. Dr. Ulrich Gebhard provides insights into some facets of the complex relationship between humans and nature, the experience of nature and education as well as personal development. He shows why nature is so important for human health. He gives an outline of why it is a good idea to experience nature, what this has to do with the good life, in what respect this promotes the mental development of children, that this has something to do with health, as well as our fundamental need for meaning.
