30 Beiträge vom Balkon-Kongress:

Frederike Vergeest speaks at the Online Organic Balcony Congress about the natural design of her small garden of just 30 square meters.

Frederike Vergeest

Small 30 m² terraced house garden. Everything is more species-rich than lawn

Frederike Vergeest and her family cultivate a small terraced house garden, which they transformed from a lawn into a living, low-maintenance natural paradise. She entered it in the „Deutschland summt!“ planting competition. This loving and knowledgeable contribution „We swap lawns for island beds“ caught my eye extremely positively when I viewed it as a jury member in the planting competition. It had so many ideas in it, with wonderful branches. So many elements to increase biodiversity, to enable your children to experience nature. They wanted: Less lawn — but more beds, more variety, more structure, more plants, more life, more buzzing. With its 30 m², it was quite rightly awarded 3rd place in the „Small private gardens“ category.

Content of the presentation:

Frederike presents the transformation of her small 30 m² terraced house garden into a lively, low-maintenance natural paradise over the garden year 2024 — without much prior knowledge or major investment. Instead of a high-maintenance lawn, there are now more beds, structure and plants that encourage life and humming. The theme of sustainability and upcycling runs through all the garden ideas — rarely is anything bought new. The children are involved and really enjoy identifying plants and animals using the app.
