Seed gardening on the balcony — how does it work?

Andrea Heistinger is a gardening book author and consultant for self-sufficiency & urban gardening and inspires with her books on organic gardening. Together with Arche Noah (Association for the Conservation of Cultivated Plant Diversity and its Development), Ms. Heistinger has written basic literature on organic balcony gardening: “Handbuch Bio-Balkongarten”, “Handbuch Samengärtnerei”, “Kräuter richtig anbauen”, “Biodünger selber herstellen”, “Basiswissen Grundversorgung aus Biogärten”. Her books are read by many organic gardeners and are valued as basic literature.

Content of the presentation:

The “Seed gardening” handbook has been reissued with even more photo galleries. The lecture provides an introduction to seed gardening and what seed gardening actually is. It clarifies the question of the actual purpose of seed production and propagation for our hobby gardening. She introduces vegetable varieties from which we can easily collect seeds and what to look out for. Andrea explains what is breeding, what is adaptation of plants to the location, because cultivated plants are characterized by local conditions and varieties are never fully bred. Let’s preserve the diversity of our cultivated plants.
