I have alre\u00ada\u00addy seen a black\u00adbird pull three ear\u00adthworms out of a bal\u00adc\u00ado\u00adny box in rai\u00adny wea\u00adther in ear\u00adly March. I was real\u00adly hap\u00adpy about this becau\u00adse I could see that the ear\u00adthworms had sur\u00advi\u00adved the win\u00adter in the bal\u00adc\u00ado\u00adny box and not just the eggs (cocoons).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When plan\u00adting toma\u00adtoes and pep\u00adpers, the first thing that comes to mind is Basic fer\u00adti\u00adliza\u00adti\u00adon<\/strong> an extra por\u00adti\u00adon of worm humus into the plan\u00adting hole. I never com\u00adple\u00adte\u00adly replace the soil in spring, as is so often the case. I use the worm humus to spi\u00adce up my used soil<\/strong>. I sprink\u00adle worm humus on top of the plan\u00adters and loo\u00adsen the soil sur\u00adface with an old spoon or fork so that the worm humus is work\u00aded in. Befo\u00adre plan\u00adting new plants, bal\u00adc\u00ado\u00adny boxes can be emp\u00adtied in spring in a huge bowl, bucket or on an emp\u00adty, cut open bag of soil, the roots remo\u00adved, mixed with 10 % worm humus and fil\u00adled back into the plan\u00adters.
